What a privilege to be able to gather together to share our faith!
My goal for my students and myself is to develop a stronger faith and a deeper relationship with Jesus while reflecting on our role in the Church. This will be accomplished by personal reflection projects, class discussions, and journal responses.
8th Grade Curriculum:
We will learn about the history timeline of the Church, along with our role in the Church. We will investigate the Church as a sacred mystery, both human and divine. In doing so, we will examine images and models of the Church in Scripture. We will study the lives of important faith leaders and connect to our role as Church leaders. We will look at the Marks of the Church while trying to get a better understanding of this divine mystery. In addition, there will be a special focus on morality and social justice while reflecting on what the Ten Commandments, the Works of Mercy, and the Precepts mean to us and to those around us.
6th Grade Curriculum:
The 6th grade Religion curriculum includes two main areas:
The Old Testament Saints & Holy People
We will learn our way through the Old Testament reading about the many Hebrew Patriarchs including Abraham, Jacob, and Moses. Each student works with his or her own Bible, learning to locate specific Scripture passages, and reading the exciting stories of Hebrew Scripture. We’ll personalize some of the stories using a Scripture Script box, so get ready to perform! All of this study provides an important foundation and context for understanding Jesus’ coming as the Messiah.
Throughout the year we’ll learn about the many Saints and holy people who have led the way for us in our faith. As we learn about their lives, we are inspired to follow their lead and grow closer to Jesus every day in every way.
