Welcome to Honors Math!! My name is Susan Mobile and I am a proud graduate of Saints Simon and Jude School. It has been my pleasure to be a teacher at Saints Simon and Jude School for over 20 years. I graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education K-8. I have also received my Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Neumann University. I have continued my educational journey by attending numerous classes on STREAM and integrating them into my newest position as the Honors Math teacher. For those who are new to SSJ, I have taught 8th and 4th grade. Every grade I have taught has brought me much joy and new challenges that I love! It has been an honor to come back and work for the community that helped develop my passion for learning and education.
HONORS MATHHonors Math is a challenging course taught to qualified students to prepare them for accelerated high school mathematics. Students are identified as potential candidates for Honors Math at the end of 3rd Grade. The Saints Simon and Jude School Honors Math program begins in 4th Grade. While the program is flexible enough to admit new students periodically, the program may not begin in 6th, 7th or 8th grade.
Honors Math Criteria
- Consistent scores of 90 or above in the Math Composite Score of the student’s Standardized Testing. (National Percentiles used).
- Consistent scores of 80 or above in the Reading Comprehension Score of the student’s Standardized Testing. (National Percentiles used).
- Consistent grades of 90 or above in Mathematics on the student’s report card.
- Evidence of above-average performances on Mathematics Level Mastery Tests (Diocesan Level Testing). Students admitted from other programs/schools should be tested using back copies of these level tests. Above-average performance is interpreted as a score of 85 or above.
- Cognitive Skills Index falling in the Range of 125 in the Terra Nova Test or other testing used to indicate ability.
