The 7th and 8th grade curriculum encompasses U.S. history.
In 7th grade, the students will begin to study our history with the explorers who came to and conquered the Americas. We will journey with them and come to understand what motivated them to embark on this monumental task.
Our trip will continue on to the colonization of North American by the Europeans and life in the American colonies. We will then move onto the French and Indian War, the taxation of the colonies leading to The Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution.
The Constitution will be studied along with the structure of our government. Our presidents from George Washington to Abraham Lincoln will be explored and all of the events that occurred between their presidencies. Our year will end with the beginning of the Civil War. All of this will give the students a strong foundation for the continuation of U.S. history for their 8th grade year.
In 8th grade, the students will begin with the Civil War and its causes and life during this time for the people of both the north and the south. We will move into the Reconstruction Era and then the movement toward the west.
We will discuss the struggle of the Native Americans and the Industrial Age. New immigrants faced difficulties that we will explore. After this, we will move into the RIse of World Powers and our role during this time.
World War I will be explored and its impact on our country and countries in Europe. This will lead us into the final part of our journey, the study of the Great Depression, the New Deal and World War II.
