Science Curriculum

The 6th grade curriculum includes 3 main areas:

• The Study of the Earth     
• The Study of Space
• The Study of Water and the Atmosphere

The first trimester the students will be studying the Earth.  This will consist of erosion and deposition, and fossilization.  We will then move on to explore landforms and how they are studied.  We will continue our study of the Earth by studying the formation and classification of rocks. Our first trimester ends with the exploration of the physical and chemical layers of the Earth.

The second trimester begins with the early models of the solar system - the geocentric and heliocentric models and the early astronomers who proposed these models.  The remainder of the curriculum for this trimester includes the study of the sun and its make up and how it affects the seasons. 

In the third trimester, the students will be studying the types of clouds, explain air pressure, wind and speed and how they relate to weather. They will describe the differences between high pressure and low-pressure systems. The unit will end with weather safety and sun safety.
